Unit 3 - Metal Supermarket

This week I went to the Metal Supermarket at Greenwich to feel the material, like the colour and the weight.

Material Selections

Brass: The reason for choosing brass is that it is hard, wear-resistant and suitable for gears or support parts.

Aluminium: Aluminium was chosen for the large gears because, among metals, aluminium is lighter and can be lightweight even for large gears.

Walnut: And walnut is chosen for two reasons, the first is because of the grain of walnut and the second is that the colour of walnut is darker and can tone down the colour of the metal.
